Those ruts two thirds of the way down catch most people out now that they are so deep.i think the line is now to the right, it's such a long section and my memories shit so I can never remember the right lines.

Yeh I enjoyed that. Suddenly ripping past your riding buddies. Poor etiquette though really, I tend to squeal my brakes until I'm invited past. Etiquette? Sod that, last man down stinks of piss haha

I've not rode down it for a while, but I've been up it a few times and those ruts from halfway down are evil, very narrow and very deep!

Just to add some clarity after having two rides mixed up in the Calderdale thread. This will be a combination of loops around the Rivington area on Thursday the 19th November , suggested start 10am. meet up on Rivington road which is a left at the black dog pub on the a675 Belmont. The car park is on the left after passing a small res as you climb up Belmont road, it's shown on the far left on the map below. www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Rivington+Rd,+Belmont,+Bolton+BL7+8AD/@53.6355045,-2.4993129,17z/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x487b0a16c91fd5a3:0xefd7715d928e6dee From here it's a fairly short road climb up to the lanes that lead upto rivington Pike. It means we can finish with the San Marino descent and only have a bit of a climb up afterwards. speaking of the San Marino here's a clip of some geezer going down there earlier this year. So far we have myself, Glynn, Gaz and Andy. Any one else fancy it? just realised that the google maps link takes you to a rivington road near oldham???

www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Rivington+Rd,+Belmont,+Bolton+BL7+8AD/@53.6353482,-2.4984694,17z/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x487b0a16c91fd5a3:0xefd7715d928e6dee Funny that I just cut and pasted it into the google Browser and it's showed Rivington road, Belmont as expected. The black dog pub Belmont postcode is BL7 8AB just turn up the hill from there past the warble res on your left and the car park is a small one with two openings on the left as the hill flattens out slightly a few hundred metres up from the church/pub.

Booked the day off for this John so will be there. Unlike marmite who tells fibs about his fitness I will be blowing out may arse as I have only done 6 miles in the last 6 weeks. Trying to get up there at weekend to get a few miles in and one night this week. Plans for tonight had to change due to work, again! Are you about Saturday or Sunday for a practice? At least with it being rivington if I fail badly on Thursday I know my way back to car gently. Drop me a text if you are about at weekend.

That's good mike, there's a reasonable size group in the making now which makes for more break opportunities. At least theres not too much at rivi that's overly steep. I will try for Saturday or Sunday morning but not sure what state my legs will be in. I'll let you know by Friday at some point.

Two potential problems I'm afraid to say for Thursday.
I've been waiting for an appointment with a consultant which came in yesterday's post for next Thursday at 3pm, I'm going to try to change it or will need ensure I depart by 1.30pm
Also my dropper broke again and I've left the bike in the lbs this morning to have it warranted and swapped, he needs to get the okay on Monday and hopefully fixed up on Tuesday otherwise I'll be mincing on the hard tail.

Been up the this afternoon for a sighting run as they say, well I think they do but I don't know where. Ice cream run is Very loose and slippy, seems to have washed away a bit. Paths everywhere running with water but still hard underneath. Good thing about rivington all that stone. I binned It after second climb to pigeon tower as the fire hoses were turned on and everything was soaked through to the skin. Sealskins socks had nice puddles round the toes and my new sealskins gloves that were a pressie and first ride out with them were going great guns and then when the torrents came they gave up the ghost. Looking forward to Thursday though so get your finger out John and get everything sorted, you can't bin your own ride.

Just to be clear on the parking, its where the arrow is located on the below. www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=366359&y=415824&z=115&sv=366359,415824&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=560&ax=366359&ay=415824&lm=0 I've dropped my Enduro in with the local shop this morning to sort a problem I've left since I wrapped it up at Stiniog and it should be ready for collection on Tuesday so I have a more than capable replacement if the Scouts not back in time, in fact I may take the Enduro anyway as its got better tyres for wet conditions and the BB height is more manageable for the many deep ruts that we will encounter.

BL7 8AB should put you at the bottom of rivington road, then climb the hill and the car park is about half a mike on the left.
