I'll be riding in the Lakes this coming weekend if anyone fancies a trip up? Planning on setting off from just outside Ambleside at around 9.30-10.0 on Saturday morning and doing a loop around Loughrigg,Iron Keld & Elterwater. It's around 20 miles with 3500 ft of classic Lakeland climbing The route is pretty low level and mainly hard packed BW so is ideal to ride after the heavy rain we going to get over the next few days. Current weather forecast for Saturday isn't looking the best with some rain and wind but it's the Lakes so anything could happen! It's a bit short notice but I've been keeping an eye on the weather as I was hoping to ride around Ullswater but that's probably best left for the better weather and longer days. I'll post details of a meeting point if there any interest! I'll also be riding a different Lakes route on Sunday cheers Gaz

You sold that so well Windy ..who could resist ...haha ! Doesn't look too good for the Sunday either ..in fact it's raining for a solid week according to my weather app .. Great ride but I'll give it a miss this time ...you might need Scuba gear for the lake lapping on the shore path on Loughrigg Terrace ...and that stream half way down Iron Keld will be more like a raging torrent ... Respect for getting out there though ... half way way down Iron Keld ..2010 ? me making a splash ...Ant following ..

I didn't really sell it very well did I. I don't want people traveling any sort of distance if the weather is really bad,I'm going up for the weekend anyway so will be riding no matter the weather Just though I'd post up in case anyone is hardcore crazy enough to join me Maybe this will help

So that will be me on my own then To be honest it probably was for the best as it was blowing a gale & pissing down all night so I stayed in bed until the rain stopped battering on the van roof, which was just after 10. By the time I set off the rain had stopped but the wind was still blowing 40-50mph which made for some tough headwinds. The headwind was so bad climbing up to Iron Keld from Skelwith bridge I had to turn round half way up and ride to Oxen Fell,up to Iron Keld and back down to Skelwith. This was probably the most exposed part of the ride so the prefect time for the first of many hail showers! few more random pictures from the ride Lakeland bridleways at their best there quite a few bridleways that have been resurfaced over the last few years thankfully they haven't got to this one yet Loughrigg terrace the sun even popped out briefly at Timberthwaite quarry An excellent days riding, covered just short of 22 mile and 4600ft of climbing. www.strava.com/activities/482773959

..should also have said in my haste to recognise those pics ..how good they are ..and bloody good going ..that's some effort in terms of climbing for what's regarded as a low level ride in the Lakes ! I much prefer those sort of rides than the high level passes ..you just get more time on the bike and the scenery is just as spectacular

I know that bit well although it's nothing like that now, the bedrock is still there but most of everything else has been washed away

Was planning to ride again this morning but my rear wheel bearing is proper knackered

Lovely area ...you should do the High Street ride while in that part ...( I don't mean the shopping area in Windemere! ) I've done this ride 3 times over the years and it has always been misty on the tops ..so I've never seen the view in all its glory ....there is 30 mins at least of hike /carry bike .but the descent makes it worthwhile. Start at Hartsop and do a circular route ..one of the best rides in the lakes ... Here is a vid that I found
