Having said on a previous post that this is a supreme summer ride ..I'm going against the grain and proposing a trip down/up there this month .. That's not to say that I wouldn't return again in the summer ..but I do like mud too ..and I'm hankering after another bit of NYM action I will put up the link previously posted with the route details for Glynn .. Graham is good to go on this ..not sure about anyone else yet ..anyone fancy it from the deep dark south ( Yorkshire /Midlands etc ..2.5 hours travelling time ...) ? mtb-uk.co.uk/thread/3340/lastingham-nym-glynn

There are John ..it's more noted for the quality of the singletrack though .. It was mentioned in MBR this month as one of their best "flow" rides whatever the fuck that means ..however as is quite usual they cocked up by starting the ride in Rosedale ..when any dumbass knows it's best started in Lastingham ..( I've started it from both ..) It's a " chill " ride baby !

What I know so far ..Graham is up for it ...Jaco is also interested ...Russell is interested but can't commit just yet ..Ant is also interested but may well be picking up his new car ( my apologies Ant ..I didn't actually ask what you were getting ..more concerned by the fact that you sounded like shit ..you're not the only one Kirky ) . I haven't heard from Colin yet but would be surprised if this didn't tickle his bits as he loves the NYM . Similarly don't know about Dave & Jean but they are due to go on a ski-img holiday around about this time so might be covering themselves in cotton wool prior to going although last we heard Jean was already injured ... I've sent a txt to Nick McK ..who could be on a dads taxi run ..he has a very talented footballing son . Nick himself could probably have signed for any team in the country in the 70's ..but turned his back on it all.. There's a lot of talking to do !

Would you be concerned about the boggy notice? How's it been when you've ridden there before.
Sorry for the questions but always like to know what I'm in for and I've not heard a lot about the area.
I watched a few YouTube vids earlier of mtb around these parts and did notice a lot of singletrack but looked heavy going in the main, rather than a down hill blast. A bit like the long singletrack through the howgill valley, more singletrack roller coaster of ruts than flowing descent. Some of each is good but I do prefer flowing down hill or techy down hill blasts to pi knb my way through boggy ruts.

John. I've ridden the route 3 times and have been lucky enough to have encountered dry trails in the main each time..but it has been later in the year... I can't guarantee what the conditions will be like..it could be sloppy I suppose ..but then so could anywhere else. The area is not known for rocky techy downhill ..and this does not have one of note..there again we are not going to be on exposed moorland tops as the riding contours around the hillsides and below the top of the hills a lot of it on good singletrack. Ona sunny day it's hard to beat... It's well rated by MBR..if that means anything? This isn't exactly in my back yard either..I have the same travelling time as yourself to get there and therefore the same risk ..so it's a case of don't shoot the messenger if it goes tits up ! At a guess I would say it's going to be wet and if you want to ride it at its very best wait until late July / August when the heather is out and the bracken is chest high . It is however a completely different kind of ride to the Howgills...

I now remember why MBR chose to start this ride in Rosedale ...lack of parking ! I will try to find out if you can park up the road from the Lastingham Grange Hotel ( which turns into the b/w we finish on ) I have previously parked at the road junction turning for High Askew Farm..but from memory there wasn't much space . The alternative is to start the ride at Hutton-le-Hole where there is an all day car park ..£ 4.00. This adds 2.5km of road to the start ..but an alternative b/w finish upon reaching Lastingham at the end of the ride..through Spaunton... I will see what I can find out ...

Well there are still some nice people around ... I ( for want of not knowing where else to ring ) contacted the Lastingham Grange Hotel which is situated just after the last bridleway down from Ana Cross where we would end the ride ..to ask about the parking conditions in the village ..and was told that we would be perfectly welcome to park on the hotel car park ... Bloody nice bloke actually ( he said in his best Tim Nice but Dim accent ) ..so there you go !

Just to mention ...my bike is currently with Ian at The Bike Place ..for some bearing replacement(s) .. He may still have them in stock from the last time Santa Cruz sent a replacement kit ( lifetime warranty ) however if he has not and they need to be ordered I will be getting the bike back for a ride on Thursday with Nick & Graham ..and then returning it on the Friday .. The choice of bike for Lastingham which I will be hiring for the day will be an interesting one ....
