While I don't want to open this can of worms again ...my old Mucka and owner of The Bike Place ( Kielder & Bellingham) ...Ian Bell is holding a demo day here . Love them or hate them why don't you give one a try to see what all the fuss is about . Don't think I have ever mentioned this but I too hated the idea of them ...until I had an extended try on one .. At the end of the day - that is just someone's opinion. As we all know too - opinions are like arseholes - everybody has got one.

Good article that. Gives a good balance to the both sides.
Still, at 22kg's though I wouldn't want to try and put it on my roof carrier lol.

i still think the simple answer to the article question is...yes!
i don't like to judge people and have no issue with it...but i will never have one, thats for sure! I really like Enduro Mag...no bullshit reviews usually.

At least they admitted it was cheating... Oh shit ...I must have been reading the wrong article! An extract taken near the end... "It might sound paradoxical but it makes sense in reality:the higher level of support from the E mtb prompts the rider to exert more effort on climbs. This is visible in the heart rate which was even higher on the Emtb than on the regular mountain bike..." They summarised the article: "So that's the facts:It's not about what you do but how you do it.On the Emtb you can have AN EVEN MORE hard-core workout than on a regular mountain bike " AND "Fun is the main factor " Says it all really...

No argument from me ..just a few quotes from the article ..( which I didn't post by the way ...I left this subject behind a few weeks ago seems that others can't !)

Neil - you do make me chuckle, you just wouldn't let it lie, would you?
It's like a secret code word. 'E-bike' and up you pop, prepared to defend it's honour to the death.

I think this is the quote he means..... If we consider only the hard line numbers of heart rate and power, then yes, from a scientific perspective, E-MTBs are cheating!

I had a quick look in the ebike centre in Leicester yesterday on my way back to the station. I think the main issue (for me) at the moment is the weight. I can appreciate them from an engineering perspective and would actually quite like to try one. But give it a few years of development and the weight will come down. Look at the size of the motors found in some of the mechanical doping incidents recently - small compact and fairly powerful. If these were developed in to the main stream it would be pretty clever.

I think you are right there ...given time the weight will come down . More importantly though I would like to see a rechargeable battery using your pedal power while riding the bike ...Bosch have been looking into this with limited success so far. Crack this issue and I would definitely buy one

Just seen that Saracen have brought out a ebike mtb aimed at commuters WTF! If it's for commuters stick it on a road bike.
However the look on people's faces as you over take them could be amusing.
