Without trying to add fuel to the argument can I ask what people think of suspension, disc brakes and gears? They are all innovations to help you get up and down a hill quicker and in a more controlled manor than you could on a singlespeed rigid bike. Aren't ebikes a logical extension of that evolution? Doesn't mean you have to get one/like them but if they get more people out into the hills and enjoying themselves surely that's a good thing?

Think it's a case, of you have to try them... To see.. I haven't tried the full range obviously. Carbon always feels to light and flimsy for me.. The Bronson had the 32 evos on, which are complete tosh!... And a not too exciting Groupset, which you could obviously change... But imo they're overpriced and underspecced This is completely true. Same with Orange and a few other manufacturers. I costed up buying a SC frame with a full xt groupset, pikes, reverb, etc and it was cheaper than buying the equivalent full bike. Especially when said frame got £700 knocked off in the sales. I do like the look of the new Whytes.

I've got an older version of this TT: Cycleops MagSolidly built, lasted about 6 years so far. Can't see why her bike shouldn't fit as you can vary the support clamp separation distance. They supply a steel QR to use in your bike so you don't knacker your own. I couldn't tell any resistance change on the magnetic adjuster so I just leave it on max. A couple of things to note: TT's destroy normal tyres. The first time I tried one I set it up in the conservatory in front of a radiator and left my normal tyre on. At the end of the session there was a black rubber smear up the radiator/along the floor/on the window above. TT specific tyres are available. I've got a loud blue schwalbe one and unless you like changing tyres lots it's a good idea to keep a cheapo spare wheel with the same cassette on to use. They also lift the rear wheel off the floor it's a good idea to put something under the front wheel too so you've not got a permanent feeling of going ever so slightly downhill. Stands are available or you could use a handy brick. If I was to choose a spin or exercise bike I'd defo go for the spin bike. Spare seat post/saddle for your bike with a mark set at the right height for quick swapping over?

Dalby red route on a 29er HT with narrow summer tyres pumped up too hard: Added bonus as I just love watching this one:

If you've got Sky check out channel 464: Bike TV. Just started broadcasting in late December and has a mix of road/touring/bmx/mtb on. Have already seen a documentary on Danny Hart (was a bit shite though), French mtb series where they go round the alps with really bad dubbing but worth watching for the trails, stuff on the rampage, whistler, nine knights and all the bmx supercross races from last year. A welcome addition to the multitude of dross out there.
Just don't watch Cycling with Phillipa...
Edit: Virgin ch 552

Great aren't they? I've been doing the 50 fat burner (6 knackering intervaĺs) a few times a week to help get the fitness back up after a few months enforced hiatus along with actually getting out on the bike too.

Choppers Glen Tilt link was the route I was thinking of and had noticed the advice to do the loop anti-clockwise. Kinlochleven eh? Anyone got a link to a route or 2?
Fart in the post for liljase. I know the riding in the tweed valley is class as I've been lots. After something different: more mountains, more remote, more midges, etc.

Depends what you want, all day big mountain type xc stuff, or some trail centre stuff over a couple of days ? Got to be the natural ADBMTXC stuff. I had thought that Neil but that's too many days for the Mrs

If you had 2 days (including the drive there and back) to get some riding in and you were based in NE England where would you head to? Probably in late May/early June. The Mrs is mooting letting me of the leash as a birthday present so thought I'd ask the hive mind for ideas. I had thought Torridon but it's about a 7 hour drive from here. Currently thinking Isle of Arran or heading up the A9 to do the Glen Tilt loop from Blair Atholl and something else around Aviemore/Rothiemurchus. First person to say Glentress/Innerleithen/Tweed Valley will be sent an ale fart in the post, as great as the riding there is I want to get a bit further from home.

The path along ulswater is a rocky tech fest. It's also bloody good fun even if you're inept on a bike like I am.

Have fun tomorrow everyone. Only been to Ae once a few years ago in the snow when lots of it was closed for maintenance. Omega Man was good fun though (plus it's got a push up path dor repeated fun).
Would've joined you but got to take the nipper to a party.

I won't be there. Struggling with either a chest infection or I'm developing asthma. Docs aren't sure yet. Either way I can't breathe properly and anything more strenuous than a slow walk leaves me knackered. Hope you all have a good ride.

looking at the forecast this morning and the rain that was forecast for the Cheviots I headed down to Hamsterley. Had a cracking good time even if I did fall off twice - my foot came off the pedal at the bottom of the bombhole on Special K as it wasn't on properly: cue comedy emergency dismount to avoid the tree on the left and on the sodding skills loop where I was going too fast and was still leant over on the sodding wooden bridge at the top just after a corner and whooosh: bye grip, hello ground. www.strava.com/activities/378816576Obligatory bike photo at the top of Transmission: That's twice in 2 weeks I've been now after a looong gap. Last time I went before last week was before they'd built transmission, etc. Anyone know the story behind the disney characters (snow white & the 7d's) on Section 13?

Nice pic Andy ...which day in what year was that taken ..don't think I have ever seen a day like that and I live here ! 10th November 2013. Was a lovely day to be out and about: just above freezing, no wind, sunshine and nice firm ground. www.strava.com/activities/94381794
