As SS it's serve a better function as a fitness bike, than it would as a longer travel HT... IMO. But indeed it's up to you!

Tell them to bang all the parts in box and build it yourself!.. The steel 456 you linked looks a great bike tbf - the only thing that puts me off is the silly 30.9 seat post - I'll have a spare 31.6 LEV which I was thinking of chucking on which won't be possible - shame. I've been looking at the Carbon 456 at the same price too, the X5 version - that's got the right seat post for the LEV and is tempting. There's a thing - aren't On One's specs info shoite? doesn't even tell you what brakes are on the carbon 456 X5 version.I've got a lot to think about - doing up the Merida (a frame I know I love) or taking a gamble on one of the 456's. Got some serious thinking to do - thanks for the ideas though. You gotta click the CUSTOMISE box under the 'add to basket' box

Cheers Will, sussed it eventually. Gaz I ain't got a grand floating anywhere - C2W mate, though it does mean that you only have about 800 come out of your wages and not a 1,000 as the tax is saved.

Would change the brakes later but could live with them to start with ..

Hmmm I was thinking the same, plus I want it 1x10....see a grands worth of bike and I'd be spending straight away to get it how I want it. I'll do some research and as long as I won't die by doing it - I'm sticking with plan A and doing up the Merida - will have the frame resprayed if I can find someone local and good.

I would use the components that come as they need replacing , would swop them out ..

what are you two bitching about now Think they are having some kind of cliche competition Gaz. Seriously, thanks for the suggestions but you know what its like when you have an itch that needs scratching. If it all goes tits up then at least I only have myself to blame. I think what it boils down to is I just don't want another off the shelf bike again, as good as the on ones are, I fancy a bike that's 'mine' if that makes any sense. Right...the frame...cherry red? or black?
