I will need to visit a supplier in Hawick (Scottish borders) in the near future, well as soon as the weather improves. So I plan to stick the bike in the back of the car and head somewhere new to me afterwards, I will be heading up the M6 past Carlisle way but could head back more on via the A1 . As seen as I am so far up North I though I may as well visit somewhere that I may otherwise not get the chance to visit. So rather than stopping around the lakes on the way back I was thinking about Dalbeattie, Newcastleton or Kielder.
Trail centre type place maybe easier to navigate on my own.
Any suggestions for a 3 or 4 hour ride.

Hawick is only about 15-20 miles as the crow flies from GT and Inners

Cheers, A7 and A707 around 55 minutes, Glentress it is then. I take it that its way marked around there. I just need to align the weather with an appointment there now, I may aim for a Friday stay over in a B&B and head somewhere else the next morning if I feel my fitness is up to it by then.

Head to inners the day after . A big climb but the descent is worth it

Buy yourself a trail map when you get there ...I know that Kev & Euan will no doubt disagree but I personally think the best of the riding can be found on the red and blue routes ..which we tend to mix and match . The black involves a lot more climbing and the trade off just isn't worth it ( just my opinion) . If you want I will send you what we would ride for maximum fun by PM nearer the time ... Also if you are coming back down the East side of the country I would use the A68 ..which takes you through some nice countryside ...on a weekday I would avoid the A1 like the plague around Tyneside....follow the A68 all the way down to join the A1 near Darlington as there are major roadworks and average mph speed cameras which start near the Metrocentre and are a pain in the arse!

Told you! We mostly mix up off piste, black and red routes and even chuck in some blue stuff, getting a trail map's a good idea, it's all just riding bikes no matter which level of difficulty trail you ride. :-)

Cheers Hodgy if you can pm me a map or direct toward a tcx or GXp file that would be great cheers.
I'm always a bit dubious of hitting anything too extreme when I'm out my own with nobody else to drive the car back if a break a leg. Shit shouldn't have said that, touching wood as I type.

By the way where is Euan these days, he hasn't banned himself from his own site has he? I'm still around matey, just not been much into my bike the last month or so and haven't felt the need to post to much. You'll need to let us know when you are planning on heading to GT

Chopper and Euan, I'm looking at next Thursday or Friday from around noon if the weather improves, if not then Tuesday or Friday the week after, whichever has the better forecast.

That's great, I will aim for Thursday then, it would be good to get a free guide. I'll check out the forecast and confirm the meeting on Tuesday and I will let you know for sure. I'm pretty sure I can call on the supplier any day that suits me so as long as the weathers okay I'll be there.

Well he gets my vote ..ruthless ..as soon as Kev & Euan started fluttering their eyelashes ..whoosh ..he was outta the room .... Hahaha...only joking ..! Just pleased he has the chance for Euan to show him around ..it's 200% better when someone who knows the place agrees to go with you ...and it's saved me an hours worth of writing ...
