Andy, thanks for the laughs - every ride with you has been brilliant, I think Jay is now scarred for life though. Also, the way you just carried on with it after that soaking in those horrible conditions - absolute respect mate. Probably the fittest bloke I've ever known and as tough as old boots, too. Proper Yorkshire grit - despite falling in that 'watter'

Well done guys - looks like you had a top weekend. From a fitness point how hard was the ascent? And how 'techy'was the descent?

This is very subjective obviously, but for me the ascent was the hardest thing I have done in my life. There was a point 3/4 up where I had the bike on my back, all of the others were a couple of hundred feet above me and it was 'come on, one foot in front of the other, you can do it' to myself - so close to jacking it in. Walking 20 metres then stopping for 30 seconds...like that. Gruelling.
Having said that, when I hit the summit - I have experienced no other high like it.
The descent? extremely techy and you need a good bike and some balls. I rode 80% of it but there were a couple of sections where I had to climb the bike down - but it was the biggest adrenalin rush of my life, that descent.
Others may think different - but that's how it was for me.

I won't be attempting it until next year so gives me some time to get my fitness back (and sort a full susser!!).

Is it a requirement to have a full face helmet at BPW? The reds are ok as long as you don't go mental. I'm going next Thursday so will let you know. I'm still considering getting one for later in the year though.

sorted my gravity dropper after having to tiewrap it to the down position for the descent. just released the seat tube quick-release lever, started to pull out the saddle stem by twisting and I heard the 'click'.....working again, simple as that,so looks like the magnet/pin was just stuck,i'll give it a clean and lube service. dirkpit I reckon if you can find a good comfy position to carry your bike on your back, it makes for an easier ascent of the really steep steppy sections.pushing the bike takes it out of you more.

I think the question on everybody's lips is....... Andy, did you enjoy your lasagne when you got home? Yes very nice thanks. I'm having the other half tonight.
When Mrs W saw the photos of the inside of our hovel, heard about the pong and knew I'd opened it in there the night before she decided to have a salad last night. Good call. More for me!
Doesn't ordinary life seem a let down after a weekend like that? It strikes me that everyone who came contributed something different to the fun and frolics. Another classic.

Well done to you all especially those of you who were stepping well outside their comfort zone .. Away days are fantastic ..but it's more of a blast when you stay away for 1,2 or 3 days ..the camaraderie and memories give a high that lasts for ages ..and friendships formed can last a lifetime ..I would have loved to have joined you for this trip ..but it was too close to our Arran trip for me to wangle with the better half ... I will keep my options open for next year but would love it if you would consider the far North West of Scotland as an option ..ask Glynn as he has experience of riding up there .. Chuffed to bits that all went well

Great pics Jay - you have a talent (only the one mind). Particularly love the ones of Gaz doing his 'heroic' look on that stop by the railway He only needed to be gazing into the distance just a little more steely eyed and he'd make it as a catalogue man, I reckon Lol jay that's a great pic mate
