I will keep my options open for next year but would love it if you would consider the far North West of Scotland as an option ..ask Glynn as he has experience of riding up there .. second that hodgy, its a long drive for most but around torridon and also aviemore are excellent

Well I'm allowed a boys weekend every year - so name the venue for next summer...I'll be there.

Scotland would be two or three nights though, surely? agree with that jay. at least 2 full days of riding would be recommended. when we did torridon we stopped off for a ride up and down ben Lomond and overnight stay, to break up the journey, 5 hours from Sheffield to balmaha then another 5 hours from balmaha to torridon. then a shortish ride that evening and 2 full day rides after that.

Could be a logistical nightmare to be fair ..I've just had a look on Green Flag and using Shieldag as an example for a base ...it's close on 9 hours of travelling to get there from where Gaz lives in Burton ! So the reality is 2 full days of driving to get there and back ! In between times the routes I would recommend 1.Sligachan..Isle of Skye 2.Torridon circuit. 3. Kenmore to Applecross ( there & back ) So the reality is with travelling ..5 days ( 4 nights ) ..depends how much your wives love you ! Booking a large cottage on a self catering basis would probably be the answer / or camping ..away from peak season ..so it's a big ask ! What's not in doubt though is the quality of the riding ...

What might be more realistic from where you live ..is a Lake District long weekend ( even though I suggested Scotland!) ..say 3 rides Friday through to Sunday ..you could then travel to and ride on the Friday ..same on Sunday before returning home ..2 nights ..camping barn or B&B's ...... As a suggestion ( only ) tour of Skiddaw ..inc Caldbeck Fells , Borrowdale ( with cheeky's ) ..and High Street ... But there is loads more you could choose from! Ps ..for those who are unaware High Street isn't a quick tour of the shops in Keswick !

I won`t embarras him by repeating it but I`m getting a lump in my throat now as I think about it.

we`ve got the first grandchild due in august,i know now I`ll be a blubbering wreck the first time I see and hold him/her.

Scotland would be brilliant but that drive is just mental. Someone mentioned Helvelyn? sounds good to me. I've even looked at trains to Scotland which would take the strain off driving but would cost a bomb. Bugger.
