I really don't want to drag the 160mm enduro up the calf and expect it maybe overkill for most, as the tranny climbs a lot better, would 125m/140mm travel be sufficient, I'm sure it will be and should be a bit more fun but just checking. Short travel lightweight XC is mine and it's fine, there are no real drops or big shizzle. Still feels awful heavy up the Calf...

Good questions, I was toying with the idea of taking the Zero, but looks like full suss it is. Better get those forks serviced then!

So it's do-able then? must admit the HT is a lot lighter for carrying duties, then again it's a 1x10 set up....decisions, decisions...

Ok mate - always listen to the locals! Chief it is. Hardly local mate ..still a 2.5 hour drive ..but I know how you meant it .. I just wouldn't like the pounding you would get on an H/t

Just a Giant Anthem, 120 front x 100 rear, but weighs less than 13kgs with muddy mudguards. Honestly having quite recently moved over from my 29er HT, I don't really think this route is too much for it to handle, especially if yours is lighter with longer forks. But the suss will be more comfy, plus my HT is a bit heavier than the Anthem.

I did it on a 100mm travel FS and didn't die. You'd be fine on the HT too but depends on your physique/riding style/arse pain resistance.
Zulu - have a look at my vid on page 2 of the other thread to see what the terrain is like.

Fred Talbot here to say the outlook for the few days before the ride are now looking a bit better so we may be in luck.
It was one of your opening quotes in the weekenders trip that had me a bit concerned about soggy conditions "I would say though that it's 300% better in firm dry conditions "

A-ha ..yes I can see how that would send out the wrong vibes .. There are going to be muddy sections ..but if it's wet then because the trail is mainly rocky ..it will hold a lot of surface water ... If it's dry / dusty then it rides so much better ..but I guess you could say that about any trail ..and at the time of writing it was put forward to go as a " winter " ride ..which would have been bloody miserable ..

I get you. Surface water held in the hard packed sections on a warm days not so bad though, gloopy muddy ruts aren't so good. I nipped up my most local route last night expecting it to be muddy as the weather around Burnley area has been bad with recently with major down pours on Saturday and a little more each day thereafter I feared the worst however after a good day yesterday it was 99% fine and some sections amazingly bordering on being dusty. lets up the rain holds out and pisses it down Friday/Saturday.

Just spoken to our resident retired vet / lecturer..Colin Barking Mad ( cbm) ..who has just about calmed down after missing us by a few mins on Saturday ..while he may not make the Torver ride at the weekend he is definitely up for this ride . If some of you lads have trouble understanding my accent when we meet..you'll have absolutely no chance with him haha ! Still you might come away with a few choice words you have never heard before ..but I'm so pleased he is coming. After the dust has settled up our way we have Graham, Russell, Colin & myself coming ..with possibly the Godfather Don Jaconnelli..depending on how things work out for him..everyone else is working ..but that with the rest of us is a good turnout .

Lol when me and mrs sixo go abroad on holiday I always take a bike or hire one there to sample some of the local trails. as you say plenty of drink, i.ll also take a cage bottle to keep pouring over my head and there should be some nice cool streams for a quick refreshing wash.

Having fun again with my weather app ...all I can say is I'm glad we are not going on Wednesday as the temp for Sedbergh is 31c ...I would die in that heat ..this is coupled with " tropical " downpours which will be thundery ! Thursday is set for sunshine and cloud and 23c ..we will freeze!
