I won't sorry have been told not long ago our godchildren are coming over to see us, apparently I was told about this but I think that is just a forgetful woman speaking. Not seen them for a couple of months, they are only coming at 4PM but I don't think I will be back for then looking at the timings and the advice to bring lights. Sorry guys but I have carried a couple of days holidays over to next year and will keep an eye out for midweek rides to use them on. Happy new year all. Shame mate but plenty it my times to catch up and ride the peaks

this is gonna sound a bit daft, but practice eating during the rides . i dont eat enough during big rides and have to keep reminding meself. its easy to overlook continuous refuelling.

You only have to look at what Russell consumes on a ride ..given the chance he would have a 3 course meal half way around ! Nick McK is the same ...and you are burning those calories as you go ..

No ...I eat plenty on the way around ..my problem I that it takes me about three hours to warm up ...I always feel stronger near to when the ride is ending !

Yeah I know ..I have ridden it three or four times ..if I've got it right you go down the side of a field next to some woods to get to it ..is Gaz at a gate near to the top of it ? We used to go for a Peaks weekend every couple of years or so ..sometimes staying in Glossop for a 50 miler ..the last time we stayed at the Ladybower ... We are coming back some day ..in fact Ant rates one of those times as his favourite ever mountain bike trip

And as its only about 1hr 30 for me my local play ground .. Or should that be training ground .. Will be planning some big rides round there as the weather picks up..

Apologies in advance this might get a bit boring ..but I will try to keep it to place names we touched upon ... The 50 miler that I mentioned ...we actually stayed in Glossop but travelled out to Langsett as we drove home after the ride and thought we would be better off finishing here ! Langsett ...b/w up to A628 to join Barnsley Boundary Walk followed this to join the Trans Pennine Trail ..which as far as mtbing goes is motorway stuff all the way through Glossop/ Gamesley / Charlesworth ...up Monks Road to b/w over Mateley Moor / Mateley Moor Farm / Little Hayfield / Birch Vale / Hayfield / Coldwell Clough/ Edale Cross/ Jacobs Ladder / Barber Booth / Edale ( tea room!) / Nether Booth / Clough Farm / Crookstone Barn/ Blackley Clough/ Rowlee Farm / Lockerbrook Farm / Gores Farm / Slippery Stones / Margery Hill / Cutgate ..and back to Langsett ...fucking awesome ride ! Did this once when there was just Ian Bell and myself ..and my Dad driving my car as a support vehicle so we didn't have to carry too much and met him at pre-determined points along the way...after raving about it on our return we did it with a group of eight ( including Ant ) ..and it was just magic ..fantastic craic ! Would do it again in the summer months ..but would also stay down after the ride as on both occasions it was the wee small hours when we got home having driven back after the ride

well done lads....looked a bit grim today, but strange how sometimes the most grim conditions are the most memorable. they definately stay in the memory. iv never done doctors gate, but dont think im bothered. from what iv heard too much of it is too unridable......i might be wrong.

Yes mate totally agree will remember it for the fun we had coming across from the viewing point down to the pub it was like a bog just the fun trying to ride down it with a river flowing down the trail was awesome in a crazy way slipping sliding down the trail trying to find a line down laughing our heads off when my front wheel just disappeared down a hole and still staying on the bike Reading teh teh reviews on doctors gate a lot of people say don't bother as it is hike and bike in places but if you don't try it we will never no mate so in the summer I'll do it even if it's just to say yep done it .. .. If you know what I mean Glynn .. I do fancy doing Macclesfield Forrest route sometime when we are both free again ..
