I think we all know I am the one who will be holding everyone up, delaying the pack and really blowing out my area instead of pretending to.

The snowy vistas look mint Neil, a pleasant change to scenes of mud.
It was snowing pretty hard around rossendale on my way to the airport early this am and it seemed to be sticking. Not sure what I'll be returning too later tonight. Land 8pm and detour to pick tbe kids uo from my mothers at the highest part of rossendale where it often snows and nowhere else before heading home.
Might regret not getting winter tyres after all.

this starts from dales bike centre near reeth www.dalesbikecentre.co.uk/starts with a killer climb up fremington edge then heads over to gunnerside ghyll then back. www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=leegoksnnupmosysthis is basically the route but im looking at tweaking it on the return leg, im open to suggestions. on this occasion, if the weather is horrible on the day im going to call it off and rearrange it for another time. its amongst beautful scenery, and should be well drained. iv only done it once before, so i'll be following my garmin and will bring a map. Do we have a plan B ? If the weathers to bad ?

At the moment it's looking like a nice crisp morning which would be great. It would be hard work climbing some of these hills against a strong breeze. The first and second climbs re quite brutal but it looks like most of the climbing is done in the first 10/15miles so no steep climbs to finish. I've just checked out my strava route from last Augusts ard rock and the distance and altitude aren't too dissimilar, Glynns route is only 300ft less, I'm not sure if all of the climbs are the same as we did that day (probably not) because it was summit to bottom and repeat 4 or 5 times and not a lot in between. Comparing the start it looks like the same lane climb up fremington edge, I remember that being very hard going, within 10 minutes of the start there was pain etched onto many peoples faces but nobody wanted to get off and push within the first couple of miles of the event. sorry I meant to add a link to my last time up there. www.strava.com/activities/365289417

im open to suggestions for a plan B but i dont think we'll need one. forecast still looks dry for next weekend. only thing im wondering about is because iv only done it once, im not familiar with the route, if there is a covering of snow it might make some of the trails a bit vague. i am using a plotted route on my garmin and others on the ride might be more familiar so it probs isnt even an issue, i might over thinking.... . im still not sure yet of the route of the return leg back to grinton, there seems to be several options but dont know which is best.

Glynn the last part of your route seems to have what looks like a short steep climb at crackpot and then a good descent however I think this is on a lane rather then decent singletrack. I've found a moorland route that could link up with that section either buy turning off onto a pedals lane on the descent down from crackpot or it would be better still if you could find a direct climb up towards aped ale without having to climb up crackpot and down again just to climb up. It sounds like there's a good descent down from this point heading west to Grinton reading the the route plan below. www.pedalnorth.com/content/grinton-moor-os-map#overlay-context=content/grinton-moorwww.pedalnorth.com/content/grinton-moor

there is the slightest chance we get lost . last time ,after crackpot hill i decided i was knackered trying to keep up with the fit'uns so missed out apedale. i'll plot the route and we might just suck it and see but there are options to take the bailout to miss out the climb after apedale.we can decide when we get to that point.
