agree hodgy, i didnt clean it in good conditions, there was at least one section where i had to walk but IIRC it was 95% ridable. having said that i can imagine that this is one of those trails that can change if its been washed away with weather conditions. also looking forward to seeing any vid footage........................jack and gaz?

just found this vid on youtube of the gunnerside ghyll descent. this is the way we should have gone.so looks alot like the icy one we tried was the wrong one. look how vague the trail is right at the start there does also look to be another option from an MBR route www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=jlpkxedgxaosdfdq

It was actually fun at first, but it was a case of brake and carve through the snow and rocks. There only was a tire width of space further down though and unfortunately that was frozen. The turning must have been 100metres or so earlier than we turned off, there was nothing obvious though to indicate it. Maybe without the snow we would have seen lots of tyres tracks heading in the right direction. Never mind it was a little bit of adventure.

I fancy doing the pen y gent (foxup) ride out of Horton in Ribblesdale sometime soon. It's in this weeks mbr but I also have the map and written point to pint route from pedal north.
It's around 16 miles and can easily be combined with the best bits of a loop of Clapham/feizor.

There is a route that goes along the top of Gunnerside Gyll as opposed to down into it, it starts with a single track then opens into a nice flowing descent, a little bitm of farm track intoa fiels then down a nice rockyish track into Gunnerside.
Looked a great day out.

i'd be interested to see where exactly you mean shelfside. maybe you could post up a gpx or just a photo of an o.s. map with it highlighted just thinking...........its a pity no-one got any pics of where the footpath became a 2ft wide wall with 6ft drop either side

I dont think Ive got pics but Ill see if I can find the route.

looking at the gpx that one is a bridleway approx 400m before the one we should have taken. they join up at the bottom and it must be somewhere near the old mining building at 3.33 in the vid i posted up

Ive only ever walked down and along the Ghyll, but ridden along the top.
