Thanks in advance to everyone who comment on these on the other section...but just to narrow it down! Help me decide please...
DMR Vaults or Burgtec Penthouse? Ti or not (usually 50 quid increase).... I actually prefer the simplicity of design of the Burgtec's but I'm concerned mostly about grip since I'm ditching the SPD's...Vaults got best in the Enduro mag test...and apparently really easy to service! It's a tough one... Thanks

I have three bikes and tried most brands of flats...verdict = my dh has burgtec,my am has burgtec and my xc has time atac (but occasionaly burgtec) although I can not fault dmr pedals...the decision is yours! just to add the grip on my burgtec combined with 5 10 impact soles was a little too much as I found that if I bounced the pedals it was difficult to slide my foot to reposition so I had to lift and reposition, I tried them with my teva links and this seems to be the perfect combination (for me)so it would probably be the same with the five ten free rider range.

It's a tough decision because they are both awesome...all the tests and reviews I find seem to say the Vaults are the best ones...I actually found the Mag, Ti Vaults for 130 quid at winstanleys website...as much as I like the black ones, as someone mentioned, when scuffed they will look older and battered sooner...so the silver with gold details would look very sweet on my rig! And they are even lighter than my race SPD's now!?...85kgs/185 lbs of max weight which is OK to me. Burgtec's I think are a nicer design, but heavier, more expensive and black colour only (not sure I could live with the good ones!? Lol)...and I don't know if they are easy to service as the Vaults apparently!
And then, there is the matter of shoes!? 5-10's (which ones??? Look great for dry weather!? But what about mud and rain?), 2FO's (same as 5/10) or the new Shimano ones (which look much more water proof!? With the lace flap cover!?)...I don't like to have too many choices in life!? Lol

The new Giro ones look good too. But no real reviews as of yet. I'd just choose one you like the look of. They all look like "special" shoes...as someone said here before...so true?! LOL Shame the Tevas are no longer available...and it looks like only the 5/10's (or some) have stitched soles...which sound a good idea to me.

my situation was I had vaults on another bike and I wanted some green ones for my dh but couldn't get them anywhere (a bit bike tarty but that's how I am), so I bought some burgtec,i preferred them over the vaults so ditched the vaults on the other bike and bought another pair of burgtec, weight isn't an issue for me I would rather have durability over weight and they have taken some abuse!,i don't realy care how my bike looks as long as I have had fun riding it but the finish on both pairs is not far from the day I installed them. service wise they are a simple design that can be totally stripped and rebuilt with just a 10mm socket and the spares are freely available via their website (although I havnt need any 18 month down the line from my first pair) and the guys there are very helpful with any technical enquiries you may have. one thing I will say about them is that when you first install them and spin them...... like you do, they don't seem to spin freely like other pedals, they seem as if the bearings are tight but I have found this to be more of a benefit than a hinderance when riding. all that said I would be happy to run dmr if burgtec were not available.
shoe wise...Hmmm...enjoy the ride;-)

If Teva announced their last year earlier, i'd of bought up a couple more pairs. Had a couple now and they've been great. You've gotta be super lucky to find some in your size. What size are you? A local shop has i think 3x pairs. Can check for you. Nearly did a little wee when he said he had a 10, but then checked and didn't. Not really "special-shoes". I wear fat skate shoes every day anyway, so these are a little milder Don't really know if I'm honest...usually size 9/10...but then my Shimano ones for the SPD's are size 45 eur...i will always have to try the shoes, specially with the Sealskinz socks on...but thanks for offering mate!?

have a look at je james for tevas I picked up a pair at xmas for £40 Thanks I might even pop up their shop near me and have a look...this pedal and shoe combo is a bit of a minefield i can now see!? And unfortunately it looks like the shoes are aimed for the dry or summer weather...but not really for the UK conditions...

Try having barges for feet! I ended up with vaults but I saw recently someone's brewing wider pedals, even with vaults my foot hangs I've the edge more than I'd like. Incidents I'm using some northwaves with rubber spd covers on mine, grippy as hell!

Why over the Vaults? I can get the Vaults Mag with the sexy gold Ti...almost 100 gr lighter than the Ti Bugtec's and cheaper...Vaults seem to always come on top of every review...

Stop procrastinating and just buy some. Buy some cheap ones like mooves or superstars and see if you like flats instead of worrying about spunking £100's on a set of Bren Dogs.
