I love riding hardtails.. Sold one to buy a full suspension bike and wanted it back almost straight away.
I do enjoy riding the full susser but I find I always have a bigger smile when I get off my hardtail.
I'm opposite to you because I find I'm quicker without rear suspension.
I'm going on the forum ride at Llandegla at the end of the month and I'm very tempted to take my HT..

I love my hardtail as well and I choose it over the full susser nearly every time. I find the full susser takes the fun out of a lot of rides unless it's somewhere where you can really make the bike work. Riding a full susser all the time leads to bad technique and laziness I find.
Having said that, I can't get on with short travel hard tails with what would often be described as 'race' or 'xc' geometry.

I miss having a HT, as much as I love the Chief, looks like the C2W scheme might be getting a hammering again.

I prefer my hardtails over my 5!... And you're right! Makes me feel even more manly, if that's possible!

Never had a full sus, but going to build one up next year (with a bit of luck) as I feel I have a itch to scratch.
Got to be honest I've never really felt the need for one. Yes I dare say I would go faster over the rough stuff but is that really important? What matters to me is that I have a good time when out and with a bit of luck I come home safe and sound.

bikes i need = n+1.

I love my hardtail too, so much fun to ride, and I've no doubt in my mind it would be way quicker than my full suss in certain situations. I love nothing more than a quick local blast out on the chameleon

maybe its because its a xc bike with 120 on the front, but i found it really harsh maybe time to build a long travel hard tail

I'm in the 'hardtails are fun' camp. Love my Whyte 909. It's the geometry you get on a 150mm trail bike in hardtail form.
If anyone is after a hardtail then it's for sale. X01, reverb, etc. Only 350 miles of use in the winter/spring. £1100
Please don't bite my face off, dearest mods.

I loved my HT but like most longed for a FS. Now I have the FS i don't see me using a the HT which my son is using. Possibly because i can lock out my suspension completely from the handle bars so i spend half the ride HT and half FS.

I like hardtails aswell. I'd like it even more if it wasn't a bit to small. I'm joining the XL mega bandwagon. Carbon frame and forks for sale btw.

Was going to take the anthem but don't think I'll bother.

I love my hardtail, but that first rocky bit of degla is a killer on one!
I could do with showing the old girl some love actually, needs brakes that don't leak oil onto the pads for a start.

Haven't ridden one and don't intend to start. Don't see the point and in the over 40's group don't think my body will appreciate it either. Don't be so defeatist! ...... Sound like my Mrs!

As a rider who has never rode a F/S would I find a BIG difference?
I do love the Cotic but sometimes I do feel like I've had a pummelling when I've been at hamsterley but got to say I don't suffer days from it nor do I get a sore arse from being in the saddle for long periods and I do have fun when out on it.
Do I need a full sus?

Main reason I got the Chief is that my back felt like it was going to explode when I'd been on a long ride on the HT. Now I've got the Chief though i would love to have a HT again for a quick blast around Cannock. I've done Degla on a HT and on my Chief...believe me, it's much more fun on the Chief!!

I know I should but after just buying a motorbike I'm well skint and riding something I can't afford is not a good idea. The wife gets a bit pissed off when I come in and say "look what I've just bought" lol. I don't know what it is about women, they just don't see things the way us men do!

I know they are bloody strange creatures! Anyway just to let you know if you change your mind that there is no pressure to buy anything.... Just an opportunity to test the latest bikes for future reference ...
