Myself, iRide and a couple of my workmates are heading off to Afan to do the W2 trail on Thursday 30th October. Gonna be an early start so we can get a full day (3 hour drive from Roojelly). Being mid-week obviously rules a lot of you 'normals' out I know but just putting it 'out there'. Anyone off here welcome to ride with us. I tend not to do trail centre marked routes at the weekend anyway as the traffic pisses me off  As an aside - anyone who has done it recently...any tips of where to start? what to do/avoid? cheers ears! |

Start at afan. It's only a pound for all day parking. It's 3 quid at the other trail Centre (I can't remember it's name)the cafe is better for your lunch stop which is midway through. The only downside is that you are climbing for nearly an hour straight after lunch |

Cheers ste - looks like a lunch of half a lettuce leaf for me then hold the mayo. Make sure you eat plenty. It's not too steep but it's a fairly tough climb and quite technical , especially after 14miles . Keep an eye out for the small signs. We missed 2 and ended up adding another mile |

I've enquired about closures and diversions and there are none planned for the 30th.. They advise to check the website after the 24th though to be sure!
They also recommend starting at the visitor centre as starting at the other place means a lot of climbing from the off.

Blade is excellent, but it goes from Glyncorrwg, so has the epic hour climb from the off. Amazing decent (JetLag) back to the visitor centre though.
Trying to get the time and fitness level for W2. Will do it this winter though!

Keep looking at the you tube footage of W2 - looks awesome. My fitness is pretty poor but as long as I take it at my own pace I reckon I can crack W2. Famous last words.  |

I've hardly been on the bike for months. I managed blade one day then w2 the next. You'll easy do it Pez. There's a fair bit of fire road but I suppose in 28 miles there has to be, but there is some great sections |

Cheers for that Ste - I am a bit apprehensive I must admit. There are 4 of us going and I am the weak link! all racing snakes the lot of em. Well stuff em, I'll volunteer to be the kitty man and they'll just have to wait at the half way caff for the fat lad at the back or they won't be getting their tea and cake!  |
