Well, it took a hell of a lot longer than I imagined it would but, my 2012 Nukeproof Mega finally sold last night! I advertised it here, several Facebook pages, Pinkbike, EBay and even Gumtree and was shocked that I didn't sell a lot sooner than it did. After dropping the price over the past few weeks, I was determined to get the new asking price of £1250 from a lad who seemed very interested in the bike.. He viewed my add on Pinkbike and sent me a few messages asking the usual questions, fortunately for me, he wasn't into playing XBox. I gave him my phone number so he could give me a call instead of sending messages over Pinkbike but he just sent text messages. That suited me fine as I HATE talking on the phone.. Anywho, we made arrangements for him to come a look over the Mega! The day arrived and I had to cancel Work phoned and asked me to go in because 2 inverters had given up and there was nobody there who could programme the new ones, rather than call in a systems engineer that would have cost them a fair few quid, they called me in... I can't really say no because they've just given me a hefty pay rise and guaranteed me a 7% rise each year for the next 3 years.. The buyer understood and was happy to rearrange until yesterday. He arrived just before the agreed time in a brand new BMW which was being driven by his DAD! He was just a youngster, about 15 or 16.. The whole texting rather than calling thing made sense now! Pretty much as soon as he saw the bike, I knew he wanted it.. He and his dad went over it with a fine tooth comb but found nothing at all to complain about.. The only thing they picked up on was a problem with the rear brake disc (fooked it at Afan) which I told him about via the Pinkbike listing. He went off for a quick ride to check the gears and the suspension and to see how the sizing was and he returned with a big grin on his face.. I left the two of them alone for 5 minutes whilst I had a quick fag and when I went back out to them, they bit my hand off. They didn't even try to get the price down further.. If they did start to haggle, I'd have rode the bike right up one of their arses because, at that price, it was a bargain. They left as happy people despite driving in a BMW... The next step for me was to order my 2015 Mega AM... I'd decided I wanted the CCDB but wasn't 100% on which colour to get.. The CRC price was £1599 and I was unable to find cheaper anywhere else. I couldn't actually find many places that sold them! After a few Google searches I found bikeactive.com who had the frames for around £50 less than CRC and were giving away a free Hope headset with every frame purchased. They also run a 'referral' scheme where somebody who had an account with them could refer a friend to the website and get a 10% discount on their next purchase. The friend also got a 10% discount code. I couldn't find anybody who had an account so I was a bit cheeky and set up an account using an e-mail address I don't often use and recommended myself It worked and I got an extra 10% off the final price.. I think I got a bit of a bargain! The frame should be here tomorrow And I went for black..

Nice!. After seeing the new frames I was thinking aye greens the best, but looking at them more the black seems the right colour. Still waiting to get my 2013 built but work has to come first unfortunatley. Bloody bargain price aswell, looking foward to the build.

I don't think recommending yourself is in the true spirit of things and raises a moral question. I think you should reflect on what you have done and I am sure you will no longer be proud of yourself. Looking forward to seeing this.

The fact I get a free headset too is a bonus! It'll be a fairly long build because I want it to end up as my dream bike.. Work used to get in my way all the time.. Not so much these days but still the odd day where I have to go in

I often look around me and think to myself 'am I the only person on earth these days that is honest and plays things straight', the answer I come up with is yes I am.. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em I seem to remember somebody telling me how his Garmin was such a bargain.....

It'll be a fairly long build because I want it to end up as my dream bike.. it never works out like that, once you have it you will have it built up in a month or two, cant just leave it sitting there, just get a credit card and load it up! what spec are you going for?

The plan is a bit undecided at the moment.. It will be something similar to this list though. Frame with CCDB which is on it's way Forks will be either Bos Deville or higher end Fox 34's or 36's (still researching forks. Concerned about servicing and parts availability of Bos) Wheels will be carbon rims and Chris King hubs, looking at a Shittystar set at just over £1k (I would love Enve rims but at over £2k a set, out of the question) Undecided on gearing but looking at Saint? With either Saint or E13 TRS cranks Bars and stem will both be Enve carbon Seatpost will be either Reverb Stealth or Enve carbon I'm determined to build my dream bike.. To be honest, I'm open to suggestions on pretty much every part of the build. Wheels and gearing especially!

That's an awesome spec! Although from the horror stories I've heard (granted if you read enough mtb related stuff you will find at least 1 horror story for every single component!) I'd be going for Fox 36's despite the horrendous service intervals.

Sounds good although a few bits I personally don't agree with I wouldn't trust any of the carbon components especially the wheels, mogwai off here splintered a set of bars under the grips and on investigating noticed cracks around where everything was mounted on the bars On the other site someone blew a wheel into pieces I also wouldn't drop a k on superstar wheels, I've had 3 sets of superstar wheels on my last 3 bikes and they have all been perfect, however I bought them to save cost and wouldn't have them anywhere near a dream build due to brand snobbery

I'd be going for Fox 36's despite the horrendous service intervals. I don't know a single Fox Owner that sticks to the service intervals... And the majority have never had issues other than with the 32 evo cartridge, which was recalled for being shit!

Adam you are right, I should've said 'recommended service intervals' and no, I don't stick to them either. Although they are definitely due. *groan*

If mtb law required me to stick to them, I'd sell them and buy some RST forks just to spite myself!

A mate of mine has two sets of Enve wheels and has had no trouble at all.. Granted, Enve and Superstar are very different brands and very different price brackets! The Superstar carbon rims get very good reviews but, I agree that £1k is a lot to spend on something with Superstar written it. I looked at Deemax wheels but really can't get on with the rim graphics. As for carbon bars and stem, I'm guessing that Mogwai rides a lot hard than I will ever do!? If that would make a difference, I don't know. I've got some carbon Renthal bars on my 456 and not had any concerns as yet.. They are fairly new and still not ridden very much though! As I say, the spec is just idea's at the moment. Every part will be thoroughly researched before I splash any cash and I'll probably be making a pain of myself on here asking for opinions and ideas.. I'm determined to get the build spot-on.

I'd be going for Fox 36's despite the horrendous service intervals. I know very little about either Fox or Bos. What horror stories have you heard about Bos? Servicing problems etc? I've never really used Fox until recently when I got a set of 32's.. I know people rave about the higher end Fox forks and I'd love to try out a set of 36's before deciding what to buy. What are the recommended service intervals btw? The forks will probably be the first thing to buy on my list so I'd best get a move on haha..

And not on every bike in the world EVER!

Will you still order having to wait till after Christmas? singletrack bikes will match the 10% off and have a couple of XL's, one medium and a few small available within a week or so
