I have an issue if I backpedal when in the big sprocket the chain dropped down 2 cogs, goes back up when you pedal forward (Not a problem really). Mine is the Hope and I think its a design problem so the One Up will probably be okay. You will probably need a medium mech and an XT cassette to allow you to remove the 15t and 17t to fit the 16t. I didn't like the look of the chain line when in the big sprocket so fitted 2mm spacers on the front chain ring. Remember to fit a longer chain or add some links as I did. Alter the B screw, re-index the gears and away you go. Although mine is only the 40t I found it a big difference.

Fitting the 42t cog is a doddle, personally didn't bother with the mech plate. As long as you've got the cassette removal tool you'll do it no probs. What cassette you running tooth wise ?

Spot on!
Ditch the 15 or 17. Ive fitted a couple now and have got rid of the 15t on each occasion. Reset your b screw and away you go.

If your looking into the 1x10 you could also change your front ringgit for a 30t front, 11-36 back?... You'll obviously loose top speed. I was fortunate to get hold of my One-up from EBay..

Cheers mate - was thinking of the expander but keeping the 2x10 tbh - would a 30t up front give the same range as a 42t expander? climbing wise - I accept I'll lose top end speed with a 1x10

So - I take it I'll need a new chain or maybe add links to the current one? current one only been on a month so would be a shame to bin it.

I added links - you'll need an XT mech

I had to buy an 11-36 XT cassette, so I could take out a sprocket, to make room for the expander. My XTR medium cage rear mech was fine, just had to wind the b screw all the way in.. I believe on the main site I linked you, it explains what you need, and set up too

Try not to have to rely on the expander though, see it as a last resort... I try not to use it, (mainly because I don't wanna mark the beautiful green) unless I have too! Climbing hills is all about leg power as Will the Hill knows...

Oh deffo, it won't be used at Cannock but if it enables me to negotiate climbs like the Degla ones or allows me to ride for longer at the Peaks, that's the whole idea. I actually hate the thought that I need one. ..10 years ago an all that but unlike Will I am feeling my age recently and some climbs are killing me.
I hate climbing anyway and would rather save my energy for the fun bits.
Cheers again.

I put a new 116 link chain on mine with a 34t up front, cycles through all the gears ok with the b-screw fully in, not managed to get it out on the trails yet but up the road was fine.
