Hello , I am heading to the Pentlands tomorrow (Saturday 6th) for around 9:30 am to meet someone I randomly met while out on the bike last time out. We are looking to do the reservoir lop from Flotterstone or do the 5 peaks loop. Last time out I did the reservoir loop I thoroughly enjoyed it, I have never done the 5 peaks loop. Just thought I would put a message up on this to see if anyone else would be keen to join. I know from another one of my posts that there are a couple of members on here from around the Edinburgh ish area. The weather tomorrow is to be ok so far early on till around the 4pm ish mark. Anyway, it would be good to get to know some forum members should anyone be free

That's a cracking looking stealthy bike. What grips are they? Odi / SDG Hansolo... Had them before and didn't like them...too thin and "hard". Cheers mate, really chuffed with the way it looks. It shouldn't be a big issue the way a bike looks as we really seek performance but let's be honest, it bloody does matter haha. Spot on I believe I like them so far, no complaints from me. I understand why you wouldn't like a thinner grip though. I had some thin grips on my r6 at one point and they felt a little "toy" like and I wanted something more sturdy feeling. So far though no complaints from me about a thin grip on a mtb

I have done a little reading on Squirt so I am willing to give it a bash and see how it comes out. I will make sure I follow instructions however I sense that it may involve stripping the running gear off etc. for a deep clean, re-fitting then applying? If this is the case then it may have to wait until next week as from this evening till Sunday ish I am flat out. Silicon spray on the stanchions sounds good, will look some of that. I will also have a brows about different cleaning products as I have also seen that a lot of people generally feel that Muck-off is overpriced? I don’t mind spending money where money needs spent, however, if something is overpriced because of the name then I try to avoid spending on that .

Haha I actually hesitated before using the H word as I see from various posts that it isn't the most popular of words around this neck of the woods.
I will do, it would be squeaky bum time if that were to happen on a decent haha.

Ok well I followed advice and cleaned off the chain and running gear. I used a watered down chain cleaner I had for the motorbike then dried this off. I then applied some Wurth dry chain lube I had for the motorbike as I don't have any mtb specific lube yet and figured it would be OK for now. I will ill be on the lookout for the fork juice deals. I'm sure my mate messaged me the other day saying halfords have a deal on at the moment for muck off products. I will also be after some squirt for the chain. Here red is the finished product

Ah haha. I see what you mean now.
I remember when I was looking at a BMC speedfox and a Norco Sight, the Sight was described as having a slacker head angle. That makes sense now as the Norco was more towards the downhill (ish) style compared to the Speedfox. Things are falling into place now haha.
I would hope this bike will be nice and stable when the going gets tough downhill. So far so good but I still need to get out on the steeper stuff at Glentress.

Not sure about that one, I have the Schwalbe hans dampf on the front at the and the Schwalbe nobby nic on the rear ? Cheers for the cleaning tips. I will get on this tonight. So far I have avoided power hosing the bike and opted to just pour water over the bike with a small measuring jug. I will be getting onto the chain etc. tonight after work. I will also be sorting some fork juice to use. Paranoid about the maintenance of the bike, I want to keep it in good condition. What do you mean by slack mata?

Chris you are right on that one. I have noticed recently that the area I live in is good for MTB. It has taken me long enough to get back into MTB as my focus was solely on motorbikes for the past 3-4 years however now that I have picked the sport back up I can see me really enjoying it and making the most of this area and the surrounding areas. Looking forward to getting down to Glentress soon.

Cheers guys, well chuffed with the bike . I gave it a water clean last night just pouring water over it slowly but the real cleaning will start tonight. I will have a look on here for some useful cleaning tips. Euan, I did see a number of houses on the trail, very nice place to live I think. Hodgy there certainly is, plenty of different trails, I would say that the trail I did could be classed as more cross country riding? But then again there were some very rocky sections and some good downhill ish type parts on the return. I enjoyed it regardless of what category it would fall into . Same script with the weather down this way. Saturday was a write off due to the high winds but Sunday came good. Wind died down and the weather held for the first hour or so before the rain started. By that time I was soaked already so it didn’t bother me. The snow didn’t fall closer to the coast where I stay however in the Pentlands I has settled. IT did feel a bit of a beast. I took a couple of detours up rocky paths that were hike a bike territory so that I could feel what it was like when the going got tougher downhill and it soaked up everything. I didn’t feel wobbly or unstable, just planted. Happy boy with it. Haha that’s one reason to like stealth I guess . I am a fan of the way the bike looks and it will be staying stealth for sure. I don’t think I had any pedal bob. If any it was very little and it didn’t slow me down. The bike felt solid all day on the up sections. I found it very nice to pedal. Just need to return its smoothness by way of a good clean of the running gear.

Ok, that post was to have images attached. I have opened a photobucket account but I obviously don't know how to post pictures to this forum from it.
Does anyone have a couple of pointers that might help me?

Well today was a good day Finished off putting the roof bars on and the carrier then went to the Pentlands. Spent hours riding and got back to the car as it was getting dark which was lucky. Really good good day spent on the bike.......although my hands perished as I didn't have any gloves. Here are some pictures from the day. Sorry once again Andy, my phone died so I couldn't get any dirties for you, but good things come to those who wait haha.

It's Armageddon through this way at the moment However........roof racks and carriers were dilivered today so I might just get geared up and head for the Pentlands / Flotterstone. But seriously, the weather is brutal at the moment. But at least if I do go out then everyone is guaranteed some dirties. Despite only riden the bike to the train station I am well chuffed. I'm just disappointed that I haven't been out properly yet and once I am out there is no guarantee my neck will hold out. I can only wait and see though. Fingers crossed tomorrow isn't as bad as today

Ok I will look into photobucket and alike over the weekend. Hopefully the weather on Saturday will be ok so that I can get out on the bike and enjoy myself and snap a few “dirty” pictures so Andy gets his fix… Cheers for that Euan, I will take you up on that sometime once I get to grips with the bike to avoid making a fool of myself in a group ride haha. Where about do you normally ride? I have stumbled on that site before while looking for bars and racks. Will have a look over it again this lunch time / weekend and see about picking something up. This month has been an incredibly expensive month, but hopefully it will be worth it. Now that I have the bike and once I have the kit I need to transport it I hope this will be a relatively inexpensive hobby? Unless I start changing out parts on the bike…then I guess it wont be .

I have a 2010 Ford Focus ST so I would need to put the roof bars on then a single rack. Literally have no idea of fit at the moment, will be looking into this over the weekend properly.
Just looking forward to getting out on this thing. I pick it up on Saturday, I think I will just take myself off somewhere to get to grips with it at my own pace this weekend or next.
I will get the pictures Saturday and upload some once I work out how to haha.

I certainly have decided . I took the Banshee out for a spin yesterday while on my lunch break. It felt really good, suspension felt much plusher (front fork on the Norco felt harsh) and the Banshee didn’t creek and make noise when I really put some power down. SO…. I bought the Banshee . I completed the finance last night and I will be going to the shop today on lunch to put down my deposit. I will most likely pick it up at the weekend once the guys in the shop give it a once over (bleed brakes, new pads etc.etc.). Really happy and I am looking forward to getting out on it soon. Thanks for all of the help on this one. At the end of the day it came down to how it felt when I was on the bike. Both really nice bikes but for the reasons above I choose the Banshee. Just need to go to Evans and cancel the Norco and get the refundable deposit back …. Next on the list is a roof rack for the motor and I am good to go . I will post a picture once I get the bike home.

Going to be one of the two above I think mate.
Not sure on the specific geometry of both of the bikes.
I will hopefully be making a decision on this tomorrow. I think that regardless of what bike I end up with I have have a bike that it more capable than I am. I am just looking forward to getting out on the bike and improving on my riding.
Once again, thank you everyone for the comments on this one. I will be sure to post a picture of the bike that I get.
Cheers troops

I have been into this Evans store a few times and they have been brand new all of the time and always had time for questions and a chat about products.
Wheeling a damaged bike out for someone to buy must of just been a mistake due to high work load or something. The store is normally spot on to be fair.
I would go back no doubt.
