its smooth as a babies bum as its a 12mm axle and 12mm spacer, just 135mm instead of 142 I need.
I think ive just had an official Doh moment as I found a clip on youtube which was part of a free hub service clip, I think you have o undo it with a spanner! Im so used to end caps just popping off on the last few sets of wheels ive had, as did the none drive side and both sides of the front wheel on this set. I think its something to do with the self pre load method on the mavic rear so you can hold the drive side whilst you tighten or loose the pre load nut on the other side with the special mavic preload tool/spanner.

I thought as we are riding a trail centre with a dozen or so good sections I might test out the Matesrace enduro type self creation site. It works with Strava pulling through selected sections and shares your profile settings so you can set up or enter an event by your strava club. So for a test and a bit of a laugh I've set up an event that anybody that fancies it can enter, if you have any device or mobile that you can track via strava on the day your times over 5 chosen sections will be recorded and totalled. Its hopefully a bit fairer than a real enduro as it may not count stoppages for mechanicals, well have to see. If you fancy it just enter below, if you cant be arsed with the hassle or bother using strava or don't want to feel the race pressure then fair dos don't bother. Ill just be going my usual pace but interested to see how it stacks up. www.matesrace.co.uk/event/5061You may need to join the forum strava club, MTB-UK For those that aren't familiar with the sections myself or one of the other frequent visitors will be able to point out the section before we start it and advise of the start and likely finish point. These are all standard strava segments on the waymarked trail, I haven't gone for any off piste sections. or am I acting as official event organiser or guide (legals taken care of).

Bought some new wheels a couple of months back. Had issues fitting anew cassette with expander to the free gun, seems its a little bit shorter and doesn't like the multiple split sprocket set combo with an expansion ring. So ordered a praxis wide range cassette which fits nicely and looks pretty cool.
the trouble now is that I hadn't even realised the rear was set up 135mm until I ride to fit the wheel and it's not reaching the dropouts. No biggy I remembered the wheels came with a large selection of end caps, valves and tools. Found the correct end caps so let's just take out the existing ones and swap them over.
The none drive side came out easy enough, the drive side one is stuck solid, I've been pulling at it with various types pliers for nearly an hour and the bugger turns but would budge a smidgen of a mm. Really peed off as I've ridden the bike for a while owing to it being I the lbs for a dropper warranty issue and thought switching out the wheels, caste and chain would be an half hour job, everything went smoothly and what should have been the easy bit is doing my head in.
yes the cassette has been removed whilst I'm trying to remove the end cap. The free hub won't come off with the cap in place and I don't want to force the hub and potentially ruin the bearings.

Supposed to be some good stuff around Huddersfield but haven't a clue where. Also some good singletrack around Marsden and strangely enough running parra tell to the m62 from saddleworth. I have some routes in a book. I've ventured there yet but have several routes in a couple of guide books.

Glynn its better to plan without me to be fair as Ive had an hour or so on the static bike this morning and feel like shit now. I hope to catch up with you soon but bad weather and not feeling 100% is par for the course at this time of year. Mrs is working all weekend and I have 3 parties to take the kids to so no riding for me at the weekend either even if I feel okay.

I realised the other day that the 20 th is a Sunday whereas the original al Whinlatter and most forum rides tend to be Saturdays.
So is the Sunday definately the right day. I'm okay for both by the way but Saturdays easier as the kiddies are busy in clubs etc.

Fantastic news, must have made great progress these last few days and be out of their danger bracket, too skip the local and go home is brilliant progress. I take it he will be having out patient visits or regular district nurse visits to keep a check on him for the near future.
Well done to his support team!

im off friday john, but iv arranged a ride on saturday as im on holiday.im doing a peaks ride with at least one other rider, but there could be a handful of us. your very welcome to join us if you like. BTW have you tried stuffing your wet shoes with newspaper to soak it up? you might have to replace the newspaper quite a few times but it works I might take you up on that depending on the weather and also the wether or not my lags are dead from Wednesday and Friday.
Where are you planning on going from and roughly what time?

With some slightly better weather due finally especially Friday which is the first forecast I've seen without the rain symbols for a while. I wondered if any body fancied a ride? Hebden bridge, Rivington, Gisburn, Grizedale or Ambleside or Yorkshire Dales?
Let me know if anybody can make the days for a start and then we can work it our from there.

well the intention today was to ride from home, as no-one was available to join me. but having got absolutely p1$$ wet through on the last two rides, literally pouring water out from my boots and socks after the rides, and todays p1$$ing down rain yet again, it was too easy to give it a miss.................just off to kick meself up the arse! I know the feeling, I got wet again on Saturday morning though. I know have 4 pairs of flats at various stages of drying out but seem to be taking forever. Im going to have to had my clipped pedals just so I can wear some dry shoes.
Are you off on Wednesday or Friday by any chance, some dry weather due at last especially for Friday.

Your a nutter Macky, if it was half as windy in the peaks as Rossendale/burnley it must have been hard work at times. According to the data sheet at fairholmes visitor centre Ladybower and Whinstone lee tor was around 50-65mph winds, and Mam Tor was 80-89mph, i did both haha Not bad when its behind you but not nice in yer face climbing up some of those steepish hills.
Like I said a NUTTER of the highest order as Lady C would say.

Not been feeling great this week, most likely the after effects of spending a few days soaked to the bone and freezing cold, felt a bit better this morning but with crap forecast from midday decided to head out early and just have a canal towpath type bimble from the front door (not exactly the front door as I don't live on a barge. Got 20 miles up the leeds Liverpool canal towards barnoldswick and the strong winds that were due due between 11 to 12am came at 10 instead. The return leg cycling against a 45mph head wind was bloody hard work, it felt like I was putting in what's normally around 16/18mph of effort just to get a steady 10mph. Was supposed to a nice gentle ride to test if my cold has gone but I was knackered when I got home.
There was still far too any people out walking the dogs, some okay and some ignorant fuckers.

Nice Euan, Scott make great bikes. Are the fox forks the goods ones 36 fit 4s? It's the 2015 Fit cartridge which is not a bad cartridge ether. I have since realised what the problem was with the stiff forks....... they were locked out lol, they are now very plush. Given your experience with mtb I imagine your oversight with the lock out was due the remote mechanism on the crown and that you had been fiddling with the remote cable not simply a manual lockout switch.

I have had loads of offs but luckily nothing too serious to date, made up for it playing football over the years with several broken bones, ligaments, cartilage etc etc before calling it a day on the dangerous sport to focus on the so much safer mtb.........err on second Thoughts.
Jesus I'll have to make sure my mrs doesn't look over my shoulder whilst in this thread, she will be there tying even more.
That is one nasty facial wound Matt, I don't know which would be worse, the pain itself or the ear ache at home.

I think Id rather also follow suit and duck out early than last minute. having spent a few days wet to the bone and rather chilly I think I would prefer to risk a more local ride where ive got an half hour ride home before a hot shower than a couple of hours. the prospect of a long ride with potentially numerous stops is also a bit daunting at the moment, I think the problem is at the moment we've been relatively spoilt by a better than usual October and now its hitting us hard with many bouts of cold or just feeling generally under the weather, its much harder to get motivated to get out there let a lone plan for a long journey and long ride where you can't just nip back to the car if your feeling rough.

Gaz I recapped on a old review the other day and the only negative was that the stem was too long so it was putting the riders weight too far frontwards and made it sketchier on the downs.
If yours is 70 or 80mm it maybe worth sticking a 50mm on.
May finally get chance to see it next weekend, not 100% that I can make the borrowdale ride yet but trying to.
Look forward to you dropping me even sooner on the climbs.
