Any more takers for this one.
Strongly suggest meeting on the main hub car park as there are toilets and showers there plus more importantly the snack/hot drink van is there now, open from 10am I think.
I would suggest the full 8 in sequence maybe the Hully gully a couple of times, then working in at the end of the log balancing link section turn right and drop down one of the pmba enduro cheeky wood sections which spits you out at the beginning of the long fire road climb up toward hope line climb, climb up school lane and do the hope line finish the 8.
Have a brew and if anybody wants any more do the first half with hope line again, skills section or just bugger off home.
16/18 miles around here with it's techy climbs tends to be enough for most mortals.

The dopes were just going far too slow, I think they had their front wheel to the lip and just pedalled off and went straight over. Funny!
Some of the roots and stones had a layer of iced dew over them making it fun in places.
My sinuses were killing me with a frozen face, actually in a bit of pain for the last half hour or so. It's been a while since I've been so cold. I'm going to find a balaclava I think.

It was a little crispy this morning with icy puddles, sheet ice in places and snow on the board walks, took it steady of course having to ride the conditions as much as the trail at times. Pictures from the top of the down hill line, there's more height to gain from there when I did there's was quite a bit more snow and ice. The first couple of corners of the Hully gully were icy and I nearly list, kind of put me into safe mode for the rest if it, two guys in front of me both stacked it landing from the drop in to the hg, it was pretty comical. I gave them 5 minutes and then found them walking down after the giant berms. Roll on December 20th and possibly colder conditions.

Ahh that's nice. I often think along similar lines having not met anybody yet that I wouldn't be glad to have a pint with.
Maybe I've met all the best ones first, only joking!
I won't take you up on the new mtb uk hand shake Zulu as I have nasty saddle sore developing around the tender regions.

I've noticed a few of the 2015 frames and full builds (used) being sold at knock down prices so obviously the owners Demoed or just decided the new frame is a worthwhile improvement. Must be good!
I'm sure with your charming ways you can tell him subtletly to upgrade his helmet. Tell him it's not allowed to ride a Santa Cruz without a cool enduro helmet and goggles.

Bloody hell that a going to be a cracker. I wouldn't mind testing that bugger.
Please tell me though whilst he was parting with a few k£ he has bought a proper trail helmet. I've thought about the shortcomings of his roadie type lid even more since andys misfortune.
He's going to need even more given the extra speed a Santa Cruz brings.

Not too bad Glynn, at least my off and roundies burp gave us chance for a kind of group action shot as we reunited for the last part of the descent.
Shame we didn't ask that rider at the pile to take a group shot of us. I think the strength of the wind up there may have had something to do with it though.
I now officially have run out of dry shoes.

I get where you are coming from Neil, with a degree of reflection and doubt I opted to take my chin guard with me today for the first time on a none uplift type ride. With the intention of using it on all of the downs.
I wasn't the only one as roundie turned up with a full on dh full face helmet and Mike had the same bell super as me. The three of us dolled up in full faces made Glynn (normal lid) look well hard.
I had fairly high speed otb crash after landing from a drop into a bog which my front wheel dissapeared into and catapulted me in a stunt roll down the hill side. Fortunately I had a soft landing and was just a little winded. If I had gone anywhere more to the right side though I would have been launched head first down the rockier track. Food for thought again.

Being the cheapskate that i am i just wrote the wifes mobile number on a small piece of paper then clear taped it to the side of my helmet. I never ride without my lid, so always have an emergency contact with me. Job done! Good idea!

Most of the time it was hard rain or sleet so we didn't feel too much like stopping, we had a few mechanicals which we had to stop for and nearly froze to death in the process.
We had some great fun on the descents which were mostly running like rivers. Shame we didn't have more time and had to shortcut the planned route a touch, a summer ride would be good.

Stranded form? I don't know that one lol. If found return to..... I would just go with something like; Name Address Emergence my contact name Home and mobile phone number. Note any significant medical conditions, allergies to medicine. Maybe note of a rare blood type. I made a little card last night and wrapped in cellotape (professional I know).

There's some rain due but not as heavy as these last few days;
Forecast Summary Thursday A largely dry and fine day with bright or sunny spells for most. Some showers are likely around midday, but they will be mainly light.

Great effort lads. I'm proud of us.
Just thinking if he does get back on the bike, for some more sketchy areas he may like to preserve his handsomeness further, so the added confidence of something like a bell super 2 with chin attachment may be a good shout. Having crashed one on top of the head and collected some of welsh hillside in the chin guard I can endorse the strength and confirm the chin guard definitely isn't some novelty token gesture.
Can be found for around £120 without MIPS.

also this vid is worth keeping in your favorites to remind you every so often Cheers Glynn you was on a roll there. I dh heard the 112 tip before but thought it was an old wife's tale, I'll defo remember this now. Good idea with the dog tags, I know your a good Boy Scout. How many people have you told of there whereabouts when you've met up for a ride though!

I recall its often the first thing a skills trainer wants on the day is details of next of kin and emergency contact number, I strongly feel we should approach it the same way.
Yep. First thing i do and also be made aware of any medical issues. It is a good idea. Knowing that Gareth do you carry the same information on you when you are riding alone or make accessible if your ride with with a group of internet strangers?

Found my Giro box today, and in it, it came with an emergency sticker, which i guess you could put somewhere in your pack, with all your contact details e.t.c Not that i will ever probably be on a forum ride, but that is a good idea Maybe be more important then in case your found unconscious on your own! Heaven forbid but not I mpossible.

The terrible incident with Andy has lead me to contemplate a few things. Amongst them is the fact that I regularly meet up with fellow forumites for MTB rides some more than others. However even with the guys I've met many times now, I've realised if we were so unfortunate to have a similar episode (I wasn't that far off myself with Steormy at Stiniog) I wouldn't have a clue who to contact, where or how. Personally I don't carry an emergency contact name or number myself and never have done and I doubt my fellow riders do. Sometimes we might be lucky enough that we know at least one person well enough but I know on every ride I've been on over the last couple of years with various combinations of old and new faces that not one person would know my wifes name and number and I don't have it with me written down. Scary thought isn't it?
I recall its often the first thing a skills trainer wants on the day is details of next of kin and emergency contact number, I strongly feel we should approach it the same way.
I propose that we all knock together an information card and keep it in our bags just in case we ever need it and aren't in a condition to recall the information. I don't suggest we exchange this information between us when we meet up but it would be good to at least know that its available for each member of the group should the need arise.
