Calling all forumites and pals who fancy a nice loop around Calderdale, lots of varied terrain, some long hard climbs, longer fun descents, technical descents, slabs, rocky rooty, walled trails, open moorland trails. Did I mention it's a good mixture. got a route in mind that would include some locally famous fun sections but the exact route would be dependant on the weather on the day. Most of the trails and the connecting Pennine and Calder way trails are hard packed so good for all weather. Would be be somewhere around 24 to 27 miles 2800 to 3300 ft climbing and descent. Normally it's around 4 hours with a few stops but for a group I guess it could be nearer to 5 to 6 hours. For me its works better starting from Hurstwood or worsthorne, plenty of free parking, get a scenic but tough climb out of the way first and then finish on a long corker of a descent back to the car at the end. Can start in hebden bridge but it's a bit of tourist trap and a weekend in August it could be rammed, starting on the Lancashire side we would cut through the centre towards the half way stage and grab a sandwhich and pot of tea. Hurstwood car park is at BB10 3LH It would be something like the below. (Nearer the time I will dig out or make a gps file for those that want one, there are a few versions on rideswithgps.com www.strava.com/activities/327084068/segments/7740482078Heres a couple of vids by way of a taster. The first one is pretty much the route. Ed oxleys lad showing how to ride pecketts well. This could be an optional section but it is good. Who's up for it say yay!

Actually I'm just deciding if my legs have recovered enough from Thursday to head over to Hebden now.
It would be good to see you all again and new guys.
There are a couple of areas though that have steep drops to the side, one in particular isn't a tricky trail but the steepness just a foot or two to the side would be dangerous if you fell down it, however it's short enough to walk.

Just checked Green flag ...3hours 7 mins from where I live ..so less than that from Hexham ..certainly within striking distance ..that's to Hebden Bridge ..couldn't get a fix on Hurstwood ..but from the M6 I'm assuming that would be less distance ?

I'd prefer the 29th if possible, going to the VW show at Harewood House on the 14th for lots of beer and to sleep in tent with loads of lads farting and snoring!

Jean and I could well be up for this, having ridden in the area when we attempted the Mary Townley route we would like to visit again. (Failed the MT route due to lack of fitness on my part and not having lights as we would of been finishing in the dark at the speed we were going at).

Pez ..I know you can't usually do a Saturday ..but it would be really great if you could get a pass out for this one ..I don't really feel like I've had a proper ride out with you yet ! Guess you will have to check the fixture list too ..I think I remember you saying that you had got season tickets this year ..?

Hurstwood is BB10 3LH. There's a large pay and display car park but nobody hardly uses it as anything before the gate is free to park and there's quite a lot of space there. i expect it may be easier than hebden for you northerners and anybody from the midlands as it's 10 minutes from the burnley/Halifax exit off the M65.

Would it be an idea to put a poll up ( don't know how to do that myself ) where you vote for the date you can definitely make ? Those who can make either date should choose one or the other so that there is no sitting on the fence If you are only thinking about it ..don't vote at all until you have made your mind up that you are coming . What do you think ?

Looking good so far. Would be great to get some of the northern chapter together with the even more northern chapter, the Yorkshire clan and the midlanders.
I just thought that weve only been looking at Saturdays, do the Sundays 16 th or 30th work better. I know it's hard to get one day for all but worth sounding out these as well.
Just been round there this morning to try and find a better link for one section rather than road, how's that for dedication? In hindsight I hadn't given enough time for my aching limbs to recover and really suffered for the last 8 miles or so.
Is there a way to add a vote button like either works, 15th or 29th?
Ps try and get yourself down Chopper, if you stayed over with family and fancy Trying Gisburn on your way back home the next day give me a shout.

Me neither ^^^ Ps try and get yourself down Chopper, if you stayed over with family and fancy Trying Gisburn on your way back home the next day give me a shout. I was thinking on taking a half day from work then travelling down straight after to go down to my cousin's gaff then ride this loop the next day then head home after, i'd need to do more enquiries about an extra day

Doesn't look like anyone knows how to put up a poll ... I think we should all put up a preferred date ..even those who are saying either date suits . ..of which up to this point I was one ! Based purely on the fact that the 29th falls on a Bank Holiday weekend ..and we may well be away ( nothing yet planned ) my preference is for the 15th ....
