Possibly a good option due to parking (not always easier in the centres)bike storage, bar and short walk into Grasmere. Grasmere is quite a convenient spot to tackle head off to various other ride options. www.yha.org.uk/hostel/grasmere-butharlyp-howe

We started at Glenridding where there's good parking. The loop we did was good but very hard work, 40% was pushing and carrying the bike over rocky and boggy ground. Once you get up to Great Dodd there's some fantastic riding and the descent into Glenridding is fast, loose and rocky, PERFECT!
We stayed in Ambleside so I can recommend some cottages if required.
Thanks Lee

I would love to do this. Can we avoid Bank Holidays due to increase cost, it's busier than normal etc. and I always have family commitments on BH.
All being well, I'm in!

+1 for mid week, especially during summer months so keep the numbers of walkers down a wee bit.

If we met Friday night and set off early doors Saturday we could miss most the walkers? Obviously, i am only one so it's up to the majority but I reckon we would be a bigger group at the weekend.

Seriously ..the best time of year is springtime ..the Lake District in the Summer is hell on earth ..just in terms of getting around ..or this time of year ..the changing colours are amazing ..but the weekends are busy year round .. Just not quite as busy away from the summer ...

As we get closer, we'll look at dates...midweek or weekend etc.
I think the first thing that needs nailing is a route though. I thought it would be like Snowdon where you have a choice of 2 routes, basically. So, what route do we fancy taking? I have no idea at all as yet.

PS I'm liking the idea of the Youth hostel idea - gotta be better than a bloody freezing barn. The Ambleside one gets great reviews, with the Grasmere one too.
