I'm just putting this one out there, something I really want to do. I'm envisaging a weekend jobbie - might even stretch to staying Friday, Helvellyn on the Saturday then on the Sunday a local trail centre before all heading home, if not then certainly the Saturday night.
Anyone who has experience of the ride (I know at least Leedodds and Hodgy have) and staying in the area - please chip in.
Dates to be confirmed obviously. This is a slow burner but I want to get this right, so I'll start planning from now.

just west of ullswater and kirkstone pass, not far from windermere which means pez that bowness or ambleside would be a good base for this area.

September 2005 ..one of the hottest days I have ever ridden ..we did the full Helvellyn Range one way with all of the climbing involved it was probably the toughest 16 miles I have ever done ( don't be fooled by the distance !) We did in aid of Macmillan Nursing Home ( cancer) ..in memory of my mate Nick's friend ..we even made a very rough DVD to sell to family & friends .to raise even more money ...check out the bikes & gear ! This is one of a few options for you to consider... We had cars at either end so as not to finish with a long road ride ...

Its a bit more Glenriding way as start point although Ambleside might make a good base camp (more boozers and restaraunts).
Id be up for this but most likely just one mountain in a weekend is enough for me so would just come on the day.

Count me in.
It would be a shame to ride a trail center on the Sunday when there's so much great natural stuff to go at in the Lakes.

Would be up for this too depending on dates. Love going to the lakes - we had our honeymoon there in 2012 as New York was closed because of a hurricane lol.

Nice Neil, some good suggestions already. On the Sunday, it's not written in stone at all, l only suggested a trail centre as we'll be knackered! Natural stuff would be ace as long as it's not a marathon, I'll be fecked after Helvellyn the day before.

Yes perleeezzz.
There are some very nice lodges in Patterdale which might be worth investigating. I'll try to check these. They have catering facilities , although based on the shambles seen in Wales this year, they might not get much use!
There is one pub in Patterdale and a (posh) hotel with a bar although when I stayed in a climbing hut we stocked up with ale at Booths in Windermere on the way up. There is also a big hotel at Glennriding with a café/pub attached.
Another thought. Is there a youth hostel (poss Glennriding) which might take a group booking?

Ambleside as mentioned by Kirky has loads of catering .. Why the need to be all together in the same place ? There are loads of quite inexpensive B&B's...as long as you are in the same town ....

a few years ago a group of us had a weekend in wales. there were 8 of us staying in 4 rooms in a b&b. we took up all the accomodation. so we were all together under one roof, but seperate. if anyone looked like they were going to overlay for breakfast and keep the rest waiting for the start of the ride, there were plenty of us shout them up

I enquire dare accomadation in another thread, seems the youth hostel are open to large bookings. The Ambleside YH doesn't sound like a doss house,
mrsmigginspies - Member I take a group of 20 guys up every year. Can't beat Ambleside youth hostel for value. £25 a night including breakfast. Secure bike shed. Views to die for. Bar and restaurant. Free wifi.
POSTED 37 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST Fat-boy-fat - Member Ambleside youth hostel +1. Possibly the poshest youth hostel ever. Cracking view and a pub!

Can't afford new ones ..if I did manage to make it ...!! Just a little heads up ..the track in the background on the DVD case is Dollywaggon Pike ..it's a climb on the route shown ... Nice eh ? By background ....I don't mean the track immediately behind us ...but the one snaking up the mountain ( Helvellyn ) in the distance ..
