What cage length is your rear mech Dave? I need a lower gear on the full suss but I'm reluctant to spend any money on it as I want to replace it. I don't mind spending 40 quid on a cassette and a few quid for a new chain

Saw one of these out today Evil bikesbloody gorgeous (though I thought the owner had gone a bit far with gold chain and brake hoses - just my opinion) also an Intense. The Intense in particular I would love to own. Your shout though. Insurgent? The insurgent is a lovely looking bike, it would just be the supposed unreliability and shoddy customer service that would put me off

I realise this is just opinion, but I prefer the looks of the Intense, tbh. Always preferred bikes with the 'inline' shock rather than over the BB. Just me, loike. All subjective innit, both good looking bikes

Don't want to throw a spanner in the works but have you thought about a transition patrol carbon. Nicer looking than the tracer imo and has had some good reviews. My next bike for sure

Nope, alu Scout rider, it's feckin awesome though, I went for a demo on a patrol but they didn't have one available but they had a scout and after that demo i just had to have it, so fast and agile it is a 5" trail bike but doesn't feel like it, anyway no i haven't tried one but if the scout's anything to go by it'll be equally awesome. The carbon patrol hasn't been out long so good luck with getting an opinion I know mate, hopefully by the end of the year I'll be able to find some real world opinions. Also know you rave about the scout so I'm imagining I'll not be disappointed with a patrol

Cheers fella, I was initially just thinking of the alloy version but I'm thinking I'm going to push the boat out a bit and go carbon. I know the aluminum one is supposed to be good as well. Either way they'll both be streets ahead of the El guapo which is a bit of pain in the arse at times.

My el guapo is starting to look pretty tired and battered so I've decided I'll be replacing it at the end of this year. The carbon patrol is currently at the top of the list. All the reviews I've read seem very positive but I just wanted some real world opinions Cheers

Definitely a good idea, you'd easily make some money back plus an overall saving on the frame. Then just add the components you want and jobs a good'un

The heckler is the single pivot version of the bronson. Simpler design, less to go wrong but i prefer vpp. Just feels nicer to me. If you do get one of them I advise just getting the frame then buying all the other bits separately from crc/merlin, etc. You'll save yourself a fair whack over a full bike. General servicing vpp is easy but changing the bearings when they go is a ballache as I found out. Even with all the proper tools it's easier to get someone else to do it. Trust me. Or you could buy the base spec complete Bronson from Stif for £3099 and strip everything from the frame and sell it. It's a no brainer IMO as the frame retails at 2800 alone. Yes it's only the C frame and not the CC but would that really bother you?

What's the actual point? Your rear wheel will be turning that slowly you may as well just get off and walk......... Plus I tried the one up 42t and it was a big steaming pile of shite! Do it properly and buy a proper 11 speed system

Nice one. They're always good fun the NDH events with good banter in between race runs. I can't do the the hamsterley Enduro on the 14th Feb but I'll probably be at both hamsterley TT's and maybe some of the others further afield.

Saints are a bit overkill unless it's for a DH rig.... have a shufty at the Shimano XT brakes... some good bargains to be had over at Merlin Cycles... This, I've got saints on my downhill bike and I'm convinced they'd stop a truck

Looks good Euan, has the Myst gone yet? Cheers mate, ive not tried to sell any of the bikes yet, I'm not in any hurry to let them go, I'll most likely sell the Commencal first but that won't be till around January, the Myst would be harder to sell so I may end up keeping it, one of my best mates keep threatening to buy a DH bike, if he does the trips to Fort William may become a more regular thing so I may just keep it on the off chance of that happening. That's fair enough, guess it does no harm in having a DH bike in the collection. I keep changing my mind with mine, one minute I want to sell the next minute I don't. At the minute I'm thinking I'm never going to get my money back on it so I might as well keep it. My fork is 650b compatible so I could easily and not too expensively upgrade at a later date if I feel the need I do want a new trail bike though

I think this is where buying more expensive sometimes pays for it self. Do Santa Cruz have good warranty stories? From what I've heard and read Santa Cruz are very good when it comes to warranty claims

I've been banging on for months how the replacement for my full susser will have less travel...... but I can't stop looking at the new Bronson, very very tempted Love the new Bronson, do it! I would if I wasn't in the process of selling and buying a new house.......... on the cards for next year though

You can come out of the confessional box now Jay ... 3 Hail Marys and tell the world you're a flash git ( I'm not catholic ..so don't know what I'm saying here !) .. And the answer to your last question ....yes we would ! ( or at least I would ) I'd best not mention I'm looking at buying a £2850 Nomad CC frame I've been banging on for months how the replacement for my full susser will have less travel...... but I can't stop looking at the new Bronson, very very tempted

Personally, to a certain extent, I'm a firm believer that it's 'how you ride, not what you ride' This 100%, someone who knows how to ride well will be good no matter what bike you give them imo. As most of you have said though, it's nice to have decent quality kit and to a certain extent you most definitely get what you pay for. I do feel though after a certain price point you start to enter an area of diminishing returns and it's more about the branding and not the actual quality of the kit
