I definitely prefer disc brakes, take not killing myself over a weight penalty.

They do depreciate in a similiar way or even worse considering prices I've seen on st. Trouble is with online guys dropping a third on new 2016 bikes when the 2017 versions are released means a used one needs to be cheaper still so 40/50% of the rrp for a bike a year or two hold even though wear and tear is restricted to drivetrain and wheels only.

Road bikes are getting innovations such as 142 x12 bolt through axle and forks. The new spesh Roubaix as a type of suspension above the forks.
However like mars bars man says most woke is done in the wind tunnel on aerodynamics.
Only one wheel size though not like mtb.

"John ..we sacrificed the excellent techy rockfest drop down Harrow Slack"
Is that the one heading out of Hawkshead which started pretty tame then catches you out with a fast down through some choppy jaggedly rocks, g and me barely scrubbed some speed before we realised it was about to get rough at the gate g raised his suspension was all locked out.
Or the very good descent where Nick came a cropper, shame to miss that one as it was fast and long.

Glad every body survived unscathed this time.
Any news on the famous cobbled climb or is that a challenge still waiting to be met?
Where abouts was the footpath that has been mentioned, which part of the ride did it link up.

I doubt I'll be there as I'm feeling really knackered just worn out with early mornings all week and bit of driving.
Plus my sister sprung a party invite on me for tonight which I must attend.
So looking forward to a degree of lie in tomorrow and a steady plod locally.
Have a great ride you all.

What's the problem with your new mech, who set it up?
Still it sure if I'm doing Hawkshead on Saturday due to a lit of driving and early mornings this week already, plus I've done the ride so if you get the gears fixed and fancy crossing gisburn off in light rain but no wind let me know.

Great ride today, thanks again to Glynn for showing me around, a pleasure as always. Really enjoyed the drops, a bit squeaky bum at times, didn't enjoy the climbs especially the one up through Blacka and the climb after the nice long varied descent through the woods. The wind was a killer at the start a bit of an unpleasant surprise. Made it a little more daunting going down those steps for the fist time with the wind pushing you sideways. I got a little more climbing according to strava Glynn but shows shorter ride as it normally does. www.strava.com/activities/727902867/segments/17858327565A few snaps from the phone, all from one place. I can't remember the name of the edge, not got a memory for names. A nice view waiting for Glynn to come into view over the rise. A good singletrack climb due to some technicality to make things interesting. Glynn approaching. Closer. Then buggering off into the distance forgetting I don't know the way. Lol. Bye then.

It would e good to see you Mike. I'm sure you'll get on just fine, if it's a large number than the pace will be good. Everybody likes to stop and take in the views around those parts anyway.
In my humble opinion the first part is okay but the second part is much better and you wouldn't what too miss it. The climbs are either very doable or not all, so most will be pushing on a couple (most likely all in the long cobble climb anyway).

How do Manf. Long time no speak, hows yerself?
My shin feels a lot bettrr today. Just when the skin stretch as you flex when walking it pulls tight and it's like being stabbed in the shin.
Should be right enough for mid week and weekend. May wear a shin guard for the time being though as a pedal strike on there could be tender.

Yeh I was waiting a while, then a little while longer and started to fear the worst. Eventually Glynn exited the gloom with some cuffs and maybe cracks to his Robocop elbow pads. Definitely saved him a busted elbow.
I've never been close to an issue before and normally just blast through trying to keep in a straight line. However it Seems to have an high hit rate for falls at the moment, the trouble is you just can't tell, could be a few paving slabs have kicked up, some tossed could lay traps through there and you wouldn't know until you hit it.
It was probably the darkest Yet today, it was even a bit heart in mouth riding up through them.

I elected not to wear knee pads today as it was going to be a longish ride and they tend to irritate me after 20 miles or so. Also didn't expect to fall off.
I did wear my elbow pads though thank goodness as one was right mess and scuffed up. Looks like they might be done now though cause something cut through in places and caused some light cuts to my elbow but dread to think what it would have been like without them. Rather timely given G should I shouldn't I thread.

Cheers good ride, the weather mostly behaved itself just a touch windy unfortunately blowing us back up drop down back towards Horton. Some roadie style slip streaming helped on the road section. Nice coffee stop at kitties honesty box cafe with a piece of cake for fuel. The usual boggy sections were a bit soft in places but not as bad as they could have been. Good tough ride and quite pleased with the capra climbing so much hard without being too much of pig. As Gaz eluded to above my "I'm just going to take it easy" statement for the final rocky drop down towards and through the tunnels went pear shaped when I took a spill mid way through the first tunnel. Bloody horrible crash I think I slid off a rut with the front wheel and felt like I twisted the bars by hitting some kind of obstruction and went off the bike scraping along using one side of my body mainly my shin and elbow being trapped under the bike until I came to a stop. Awful feeling thinking I may have broke my shin without being able to see it in the pitch black and then the sound of a bunch of other bikes screaming down into the tunnel behind me. Fortunately they managed to slow up and avoid me somehow. The shins a rather sensitive part along with knee bones and the Bollocks. I felt a bit sick with pain for a while but managed with gaz kindly offering one of his elephant tranquillisers for his bad back. The Mrs has applied some cream after a good clean up. The bumps coming up like a second knee cap. Sadly the only pics from today.dont get roo many or very long rest breaks with Gaz.

Your welcome to join us. It's a bit more of an xc bimble than the urate but still 4 or 5 good downs one of them quite long and varied.

I haven't but plan for so that mid week one time when there's fewer walkers about then just descend back down the other lanes as it would put you out onto the boggy side if you wanted to limb back around pen y ghent. It's definitely better anti clockwise.

Not doing this now due to change of plans and being a Billy no mates.
Heading around pen y ghent out of clapham instead whilst it should just about be dry enough to be somewhere near it's best.

Same 1.35 for me but that's a clear run, I have the joys of the m66 and m60 Manchester, Manchester airport and m6 bound so it's a real pinch point until I start to head through glossop. Not a good drive. But more than worth it for the riding around those parts!
I'm planning on joining hodgys mob in the lakes on the Saturday so would prefer wed or Thursday for some recovery time.
If the consensus is otherwise no problems. I ll catch it another time and have a steady local one on the Wednesday instead.

Fingers crossed for you Jimbo, did you actually find and remove one? It doesn't sound like you did.
Rather worryingly I never knew about them at all until the last couple of years,
Now I have a good check but worry that during a ride they may end up ground in with all mud on my legs which gradually may get brushed off so the tick could have done its damage and then I brush it away without knowingly buy leave its gob and poison stuck in my leg.
Spent a good while wading through waist high grass this morning, totally encrusted in mud, with bits of vegetation stuck in, impossible to see what lose may be on the legs. I'm hoping they are obvious when you have them!
